My Eye Center in a joint effort with Lions Club International, Ghana Total Energies, Vision Spring International, Donewell Insurance, Ace Management Consult and Brown Hills Residences Pediase, rallied residents of Tema and its environs at the Tema, Total Filling Station for free eye screening tests to mark World Sight Day 2023.
The eye centre made efforts to align the commemoration to the theme of this year’s World Sight Day, ‘Love Your Eyes At Work,’ which counts good eye sight as an important factor to productivity in respective work spaces globally.
Chief Executive Officer of My Eye Center; Dr. Chinenye Adisa, stated that the cause shall echo the importance of good eye sight for all individuals, cutting across varying social classes. She believes that everyone deserved good eye sight, hence, quality eye care services must be made available to all. “Today is a day we come together to announce the importance of good eye sight; our efforts are centered basically around three things; Making eye care available to all who need it, especially within the rural areas; Making eye care accessible to all those who need it. We just cannot have people who need eye care over here but must go over seas to get that care; we must also make it affordable for the people. We must ensure that eye care is less expensive. This will boost patronage and engagement of more victims of eye complications.”

Good vision as an imperative objective is the underlying bond that brought other entities on board to join the noble expedition. According to the Second Vice President of Lions Club International; Obeng Dwamena, the mission to eradicate blindness is a core objective of the club. He hinted that the initiative aligns with the clubs causes and touted it as one worth partaking in. “Lions Club International as a leading global service entity have prevention of blindness as one of our core causes; we are following through with our global cause; 80% of blindness cases that are recorded in the world can be prevented and this is a way of reaching out with the community to prevent blindness.”
Also speaking as a partner, the Country Representative for Vision Spring International; Harry Ahimah, submitted that many individuals find difficulty reading but are not aware of what the cause could be. He noted that people in rural communities who previously lived with these eye complications can also receive eye care. “We live in a world where vision is everything; if you lose your vision or your sight there are a lot of things you would miss out on; we are here to let people know that eye care is not expensive and can finally be accessible.”
According to the Tema Branch Manager of Donewell Insurance; Yvette Ampofo; “The protection of the eye and prevention of blindness gave Donewell Insurance a cue to be part of this wonderful cause; fellow partners are interested in protecting the eye, ensuring that the welfare of all individuals is paramount. That is the same way Donewell Insurance also seeks to protect all individuals who have insurance and also carry their best interest as our paramount objective.”
World Sight Day is celebrated annually on October 12 to re-echo the importance of eyesight and the provision and availability of eye care for all individuals globally.
On Thursday, October 12, 2023, My Eyes Center in collaboration with the International Agency for Blindness Prevention (IABP), provided free eye screening and distributed over 500 free reading glasses to the people of Tema and its environs as part of the activities marking World Sight Day.
